29 November 2022, 11:00 – 12:00.
Research seminar. Irvine Lecture Theatre.
Dr Carol Sparling (School of Biology, University of St Andrews)
Dr Alison Johnston (School of Mathematics and Statistics, University of St Andrews)
This summer we experimented with creating local hubs for University of St Andrews researchers to connect remotely with international conferences. The goal of these was to save carbon from international travel and create an approximate conference experience without the same financial and carbon cost. In this talk, we will present a brief overview of how we organised these local hubs, providing insights from post-event participant surveys and discussing the benefits and challenges of this model.
We will create space for discussion about these local hubs, including considering where it may be helpful to create these in future (and where it may not be!). Finally, we will discuss how to improve these events in the future and explore how the University of St Andrews can be a world-leader for sustainability in academic research.
