Bonn Alliance for Sustainability Research visits STACEES

The STACEES team were delighted to host Dr Sandra Gilgan, Managing Director of the Bonn Alliance for Sustainability Research recently at the University of St Andrews.

Over a fortnight spanning end of May to early June 2022, Sandra, who is based at the University of Bonn (Germany), met with researchers from across the University’s Schools and participated in School and STACEES events. She also joined the STACEES team for multiple cooperation-focussed brainstorming sessions during the exchange funded by an Erasmus+ grant awarded to Sandra.

On Monday 30 May, Sandra was joined by over twenty researchers and students from across the University’s Schools (plus some from the University of Bonn!) for a lunchtime STACEES networking event entitled ‘Connecting with Bonn: Sustainability Research & Cooperation’. The session kicked off with a presentation by Dr Gilgan about the work of the Bonn Alliance for Sustainability Research and the facets of sustainability research conducted in Bonn.

After Sandra’s talk, Joseph North from the University of St Andrews Global Office gave an overview of the Bonn Collaborative Research Grant and the research partnership between Bonn and St Andrews. A relaxed vegan lunch and informal networking followed Sandra and Joseph’s presentations. The STACEES team would like to thank the Global Office for generously sponsoring the event and everyone who joined us. We also need to thank Sandra for a truly enjoyable couple of weeks!

The STACEES team look forward to continuing our conversations about collaboration and cooperation with the Bonn Alliance team through ongoing regular (virtual) catch-ups. If you are a University of St Andrews researcher and are keen to engage with the Bonn Alliance, please drop the STACEES team a line via [email protected] and we will be happy to facilitate.
